My name is Patrice Theetge and I am the School Counselor at Parley Coburn Elementary. This 2020-2021 school year will be my third year working at Coburn and I am very excited to see everyone again- whether it be in person or virtually! This year is going to be much different than anything we've experienced, but I am here to help. If you have any concerns, please reach out to me via phone, email, or the referral form listed at the bottom of the page.

Here are some of the things I will be working on with students this year:
Classroom Guidance Lessons- Each month, I will be going into each classroom to teach a monthly lesson. Topics covered include social skills, identifying feelings, responsible decision making, and career readiness.
Small Group Counseling Sessions- Focuses on specific topics such as social skills, anger management, study/organizational skills.
Short-term Individual Counseling Sessions- Available to students who need short-term support
*Virtual-There will be virtual lessons and resources available to students online

Setting up for Success

Virtual Learning is not what we are used to and can be hard at times. Here are a few tips to help!

  • Make a special, learning space

Create a special, personalized corner of a room dedicated to learning, creating, and reading. Use a movable box or crate if space is precious. Decorate it to make it feel like a learning space (even if you just have a pencil box!- anything will help!).

Try to put your work space somewhere that is calm, quiet and comfortable. Just like when you're in school, it is easier to focus and concentrate this way!

  • Set a Routine

Pretend like you are going to get up and go to school! Get dressed, eat breakfastHand Drawn Breakfast Clip Art commercial use breakfast clip | Etsy, brush your teethTooth Brushing Human Tooth Clip Art Dentistry, PNG, 1200x630px, Tooth Brushing, Animated Cartoon, Animation, Brush, Cartoon, etc. This will help you get in the mindset to learn!

It also may be helpful to fill out a daily calendar with what you are supposed to do and when!

  • Take Breaks!

It's hard sitting still for long periods of time! Make sure you are taking breaks throughout the day (in-between zoom meetings!)

Look at the Helpful Resources folder for some fun break ideas in my Schoology course

  • Ask for Help

We are here to help you! Please reach out to your teacher if you don't understand something! Remember, there is no such thing as a bad question :)
